BBC House Prices calculator

It’s hard to know where to start when buying a home.
What area is safest?
Where will I get the best return on my investment?
Will I be able to afford somewhere that’s close enough to work/my friends/my family?

The BBC house price calculator may be a useful tool for quickly getting a rough idea of the most realistic and affordable places to move to.  Search by postcode, area, or local authority (because let’s not forget the local differences in UK council tax!) to get an immediate idea of what property costs in that region.

Figures are calculated in England and Wales using the most recently released data from the Land Registry.  Scottish properties are analysed using the Registers of Scotland Executive Agency, and those in Northern Ireland are worked out by the University of Ulster in partnership with Bank of Ireland.

I hate moving house but i have found that small villages are the safest places to live.

They do seem like idylic places to live. I suppose the charm of village life is the result of the fact that not many people choose it, though.

  3. Wow, great tool. I didn’t know this was available.
